They cure so quickly, in fact, that there is insufficient time to penetrate and bond strongly with the concrete substrate. Additionally, polyurea-polyaspartics are not “high-build” coatings; they can only be applied thinly.
As moisture wicks upwards through the porous concrete, it creates a hydrostatic pressure that pushes upward on the primer coat. The thin, poorly bonded polyurea-polyaspartic primer coat is vulnerable to the high upward pressures. Over time, this pressure causes the coating to peel and crack.
